The Africa Institute for Personal Development (AIPD) was created by Tinie and Lynne Terblanche with a shared belief that people and organisations can continually develop, improve and perform at their best.
Our purpose is to contribute to the development of people and organisations in the private, corporate and public sectors, as well as individuals around the world.
Over the years, AIPD has also developed relationships and collaborations with trainers, educators, researchers and professional organisations who share our commitment to development and learning.
Today, AIPD combines our experience with the opportunities created by online learning and digital technology, making development resources accessible beyond geographical boundaries.
THE CREATORS OF AIPD - Tinie & Lynne Terblanche
AIPD is the result of the combined vision, experience and commitment of Tinie and Lynne Terblanche.
We created AIPD because we believe that development is not something that happens once in a person's life or once in an organisation.
It is a continuing journey of learning, adapting, improving and growing.
Our individual experiences are different, but together they have shaped what AIPD has become.
Our work has changed over the years as the world has changed. We have moved from traditional training and consulting towards books, online learning, digital resources and practical development tools.
What has remained constant is our belief that people and organisations have the capacity to develop. That is the idea at the heart of AIPD.
Tinie Terblanche
My professional journey has taken me through banking, small-business development, entrepreneurship, education, training and consulting.
Each of these experiences has contributed to my understanding of how people and organisations develop and perform. My work has increasingly focused on finding practical ways to help people understand themselves, improve their performance and deal with the challenges of a changing world.
AIPD provides a way of bringing these experiences together through training, books, practical frameworks and online learning.
My own life has also taught me that development is not simply about knowledge. It is about the ability to continue learning, adapting and moving forward when circumstances change.
Lynne and I have delivered a Life Skills programme together to over 1,200 learners across five schools — a project that has shown me, in practice, how much stronger our work is when we build it side by side.
In 2024, I experienced a major personal setback when I suffered two heart attacks and three strokes. The recovery journey has changed many aspects of my life and given me a deeper personal understanding of resilience, learning and the importance of continuing to develop.
This experience has strengthened my belief in something that has always been central to AIPD: people can continue to learn, develop and grow.
Lynne Terblanche
My journey has taken me through many different seasons — teaching, raising a family, running small businesses with Tinie, and always, somewhere in the mix, finding new things to learn.
I started teaching in 1981, and over the years that followed I taught almost every age and subject the early school years call for. Along the way there were other chapters too — running a play school, working in sales, helping build two family businesses where I managed the administrative and financial side of things. Whatever the season, I kept coming back to teaching and to helping people grow.
In 2024, after more than four decades in and out of the classroom, I retired as a Departmental Head. Since then, Tinie and I have delivered a Life Skills programme together to over 1,200 learners across five schools — work built around the belief that we grow by learning to know, to be, to live together, and to do. That belief has stayed with me, and it quietly shapes much of what AIPD creates.
I've always believed that if you're going to encourage others to keep developing themselves, you need to keep doing it yourself. So alongside teaching, I kept adding new skills — training in child counselling, inclusive education, mindful teaching, and more. Today I'm also an online English teacher, helping adults around the world build their conversational English with confidence.
At AIPD, I take our ideas and turn them into something people can actually hold and use — the writing, editing, design, and publishing behind our books and courses, along with the everyday administration that keeps things running. Tinie and I build AIPD's thinking together, and this is the part of the work that's mine: shaping it, and carrying it out into the world.
